Open Text eDOCS DM Overview

Document management solutions allow organizations to reduce the time and complexity associated with storing, organizing, and locating information and to leverage an enhanced ability to generate competitive advantage from the organization’s cumulative knowledge, while at the same time ensuring the security and integrity of that information. Effective solutions do so by seamlessly blending document management tools with familiar content authoring and productivity tools without requiring users to learn new ways of working. The result is increased business agility and a more productive workforce that securely manages and leverages content in context.

As an open enterprise document management system, Open Text eDOCS DM designed is structured in 3 tiers architecture model:

  1. Data tier
    • SQL database containing the DM library
      • DM Library is a collection of the SQL tables and columns that define how the documents are categorized and organized.
    • File store containing one or more document servers.
      • Document Server is merely a network location where the physical document files are stored.
    • Full-text index of the stored documents.
      • A full-text index is a database of search terms and where they can be found in each document. When a user initiates a search against a term, DM’s search engine scans the full-text index and returns a list of documents containing the search term.
  2. Transactional tier
